Have you been Naughty? – 1 More Day Left…

Even if you’ve been naughty, I’m sure your Santa will still find a reason to give you something nice.  This is another play on the carton baskets that I’ve created here and here.  I’ve combined this playful sentiment with the images of the Every Little Bit stamp set.

I used a few drops of the Cherry Cobbler ink refill and mixed it with some Platinum Shimmer Paint.  To apply the ink, I used a q-tip to apply the  mixture to the words “Naughty” and “Nice” after colouring the other words on the stamp with an Early Espresso Marker.  This will add a slight red tinge to the silver words.

Merry and Bright – Day 2

I really like the design of the ornaments from this Merry & Type Stamp Set.  It could be stamped with one colour to create a pattern for the background.  But I wanted to use more colours for these ornaments for a more festive look so I decided to use the markers to colour it in instead of using an ink pad.  I originally meant to use the embossed side but I put the paper in upside down so it turned out to be a deboss background which made the images look a bit softer.

The deboss softens up the images.

Snowflake on Razzleberry – Day 3

There’s just something very festive and gorgeous about this Rich Razzleberry that I just had to use it, even for Christmas!  I chose not to use a sentiment but I’m sure the snowflake in the background and the embellishment is obvious enough.  The contrast of the Baja Breeze Glass Glitter, White Satin ribbon and Clear Rhinestone Brad completes it just perfectly!

The snow flake has Dazzling Diamonds embossed on it with the clear emboss powder (like the snow flakes I used in the basket and tag).  This way, the diamonds don’t fall off!  I’ve found that the Tombow works best for applying the glass glitter.  I wanted to stock up on the Baja Breeze Glass Glitter but it was SOLD OUT on the Clearance Rack so fast I couldn’t even order it in time!  Argh!

The brad holds the bow really well but you will need a glue dot to adhere it securely to the cardstock.

Simple & Versatile in 5 Minutes – Day 4

Here is a very simple layout that you can use for various occasion cards.  You can change the DSP at the bottom, the sentiment and the embellishment to your desire.  For example, if you wanted to make it a wedding card, use a softer swirly pattern, a “Congratulations” sentiment, a satin ribbon, and a flower or butterfly.  If you wanted to make a baby card, you can use a cuter patter paper at the bottom, a “Welcome Baby” sentiment, a bashful blue or pretty in pink pirouette grosgrain ribbon, and some itty bitty buttons.  On this card, I used the new Mini Jingle Bells that are in the Holiday Mini Catalogue, available only until January 3.

Gently sponge crumb cake over the sentiment to highlight it.

No fancy tying, just a simple fold on the ribbon (use a bit of sticky strip to hold the ribbon down so that it’s easier to tie on the linen thread).  The mini jingle bells are tied together with linen thread and just double knotted (leave a little bit of excess before cutting the linen thread in case it comes loose).

Stamps: Curly Cute (#117014)
Ink: Crumb Cake (#121030), Early Espresso (#119670)
Paper: River Rock (#109010), Letters to Santa DSP (#122349)
Accessories: Linen Thread (#104199), Mini Jingle Bells (#124116), 1-1/4″ Real Red Striped Grosgrain Ribbon (retired)

Crumb Cake Trio Day 7

This trio came to my mind when I thought “what if I don’t have any Christmas pattern paper?  How would I make Christmas cards?”  Here is your answer: one colour cardstock, one stamp set, one ink pad, and maybe other little accessories of your choice to add some bling and sparkle.  I chose crumb cake for this trio but you can experiment with others.  I also sponged different elements of the cards to bring out either the sentiment or the background.  (I need a new camera!  These pictures don’t do them justice!)  Because these are so simple, they only take minutes to get done.

Stamps: Bright Hopes (#122692)
Ink: Crumb Cake (#121030)

Sparkles Sparkles Everywhere

I made this card two weeks ago and when I saw the Just Add Ink challenge this week, I thought it was perfect.  I saw this idea from another demonstrator (I’m so sorry I lost the page and couldn’t remember her name) but she made this very simple card with only Whisper White cardstock with the different border punched strips for background.  I took that idea and added on Dazzling Diamonds and instead of a flower, I used a butterfly.  The dazzle of the diamonds on the white is just spectacular!  The pearls were painted with the Platinum Shimmer Paint and finished with a touch of Dazzling Diamonds as well.  When I finished this card, the dazzling diamonds were everywhere.  :p

Stockings on Day 9

The new Stocking Builder Punch makes these cute little stockings and they’re a snap to put together.  It’s great for using up those old scraps.  This layout can be used with any image of your choice.  For example, instead of 3 stockings, you can use stars, ornaments, trees, flowers, butterflies, etc…  The sentiment at the bottom can also be changed depending on what your theme is.  I sponged the background a bit so that the white doesn’t contrast so much.  Sponging adds a nice touch to almost any color theme.

Newlyweds Flower

The layout came from the Sweet Sunday 129 Challenge but I didn’t link it in time (oops!).  I’ve seen this flower in many projects lately and putting the paper through the textured impressions folder makes it easier to ruffle up and adds a natural texture.  To make it a little more suitable for the occasion, I used several pearls to accent the sentiment and a rhinestone brad to highlight the blossom of the flower.

Brining Mr. & Mrs. Owl Closer

This is a twist of my last project for Mr. and Mrs. Owl.  This one brings them closer to join their ‘wings’.  The colours of the hears on the owls aren’t showing up that well but in case you’re wondering, one is in Marina Mist and the other is in Wisteria Wonder so it’s definitely for Mr. and Mrs. !

Accordian Flower Wedding Cards

Here is the second of the wedding card series.  It’s actually a case from a double pocket card with an accordian flower that I saw on Youtube and I put those 2 elements together.  It’s a little tricky to adhere the flowers down at the beginning but put something with a bit of weight on it and hold for a few minutes while you work on the other part of the card.  You can very well substitute a different color for the butterflies and ribbons and replace the middle of the accordian flower with a large brad.  I’m thinking of doing a class with this series.  Anyone interested?

Mr. & Mrs. Owl

Summer is Vancouver is also a popular time for weddings.  I know there are a handful of our friends who are tying the knot this year so I needed to start pumping out wedding cards.  The owl punch was perfect for such sweet occasions.  If you move the side panels, it moves the owls closer to each other like in the second picture.  And the way they look at each other just makes your heart melt.  I cased the idea of this peek-a-boo card from a project that I found here.  And when it’s flattened, it will still fit inside a standard envelope.  Tadaa!  Isn’t it great?  I decided to use the new In-Colors 2011-13 for this card.  I just totally LOVE how the colors came together!!!

The back of the card has a pocket for a tag to write a message and on the back of the tag is also a pocket for a gift card.  Cute and also practical!
